In this free workshop, we will walk Grade 11 families through how Canadian and US universities actually weigh AP, IB, and regular provincial courses, when each option helps and when it hurts, and how to choose course load for Grade 12 in a way that protects your child’s GPA without limiting their university options.
We will cover how universities like UBC, U of T, McGill, Western, Queen’s, and competitive US schools evaluate AP exams, IB Diploma scores, and regular provincial transcripts side by side, why higher rigor does not always translate to better admit rates, the GPA implications of taking AP or IB versus regular, when AP credits actually transfer for university first-year courses, how IB Diploma scores factor into UBC’s broad-based admissions and US Ivy+ admissions, and how to choose Grade 12 course load to balance rigor against the GPA grind. We will also walk through the specific course recommendations for students targeting Rotman, Engineering, Sciences, Health Sciences, and Liberal Arts.
