Queen’s labels the rubric currently displayed on its supplementary-application rubric page as belonging to the 2026 intake and says updated information for the 2027 intake will be posted by November 1, 2026. Until then, treat the older rubric as historical. Check the format, timing and criteria for your own application before an assessed submission.

That means an older Kira timing example, question count or scoring grid should not be presented as confirmed for your intake. Familiarity with a previous format can be useful background, but use the new instructions when they become available. Do not memorize an older applicant’s assessed answer.

Develop an experience bank

Choose several real experiences you can explain clearly. A part-time job might show how you handled a disagreement; a group project might show how you changed an approach after feedback; a family responsibility might show consistency and judgment. These are possible reflection topics, not an official list of preferred activities.

For each experience, record the context, your responsibility, the action you took and what you learned. Include other people’s contributions where relevant. If the result was mixed, explain it honestly rather than forcing a success story.

For example, a generic preparation note such as “our club struggled to get volunteers, so I asked members about their availability and changed the shift schedule” gives you something concrete to reflect on. It is an illustration of specificity, not a response to a Queen’s application question.

Practice clear communication

1. Answer the question first. Identify what the prompt asks before choosing an example.
2. Use a manageable scope. One relevant situation is often easier to explain than a compressed list of every achievement.
3. Explain decisions. Describe why you chose an approach, not just what happened.
4. Leave room for reflection. Explain how the experience changed your understanding or future behaviour.
5. Check the current rules. Follow the application’s requirements for timing, notes, assistance and technology.

If the current format includes recorded responses, test your camera, microphone and connection and use any official practice tools. Review whether you are understandable and on topic; a rehearsed performance is not a substitute for an honest answer.

Evaluate Commerce as a program choice

Compare the curriculum, specialization options, experiential learning, campus life and total cost with other business programs you would consider. Review current official program information and employment reports directly. When using an employment statistic, check the graduating class, response group and measurement period; it does not guarantee the outcome of a future student.

Make a budget using your fee category, housing choice, food, books, transport and contingency. Keep possible scholarships separate from confirmed support.
